Morning! thanks guys. although not entirely decided yet, at this stage I must say I am moving more towards the scooter (BWS / PGO) option. I have ridden (short distance) on CD200, and I have to agree with Trailrider...walking is more exciting.  ;) And, I also have to agree with the comment...

hmmm, I know R5k is not much of a budget, but I'd rather NOT go for a VUKA. Not only are they ugly, but...... did I mention they are UGLY?!?!?  to the two guys who are comparing km/l of the BWS and Dakar..... remember maintenance still has to be added!!!! I would really like a Dakar, or KLR...

what 400cc bikes would you propose?  Preferrably not something like VFR etc. too much of a superbike-sit-in-a-squat-like-position-which-is-very-uncomfortable kind. have searched SuziBandit's as well, but quite pricey....

Thanks for advise, the more I think about it, the more I am sure that a 200 or similar will suit him a bit more! He is also a very easy going (patient) and philosophical guy..... Plus, a CD200 (for eg.) can take luggage easily!!!  and screen for wind / bugs etc.!!!  Might def break some...
