    Who still rides a DL 650 / 1000

2012 DL650 ABS used daily since 2012.  Minor hassles - both electrical.  Now on 98000km.  Still on 1st battery.  No oil topups needed between 10K services. Total cost to date: R1.64/km.  'Progress' to...?    :ricky:

Headlights dead on 2012 DL650 - culprit found

Ek gooi maar in Ingels vir ons nie-Afrikaanse maters: I got the lights working again by cutting the wires from the burnt pins both sides of the connector and joined them again with crimp pins (male & female).  This simple job took me nearly 2 hours. Most of this time was spent trying to get...

Headlights dead on 2012 DL650 - culprit found

Headlights dead on 2012 DL650 - culprit found

Ek het uit desperaatheid hom goed gespuit gisteraand maar ek dink die skade is reeds gedoen deur die oorverhitting van die kontakte.  Die spookpis (WD40) het geen verskil gemaak nie.

Headlights dead on 2012 DL650 - culprit found

Had a shocker when the DL left me without head lights last night on my way home.  I had to do 30k's in dark without lights in GP traffic - not nice.  The hazard lights just made this possible. Thank goodness this didn't happen on the KLR.  After spending some time debugging I was disappointed...

    DL 650 en water

Recently I've replaced my KLR's neck bearings and was surprised by the amount of rust in the bearings although a lot of factory (green) grease was still present.  I always thought that grease would prevent rust to great extent by sealing of the metal from water  ??? Would marine grease be...

    DL 650 en water

When submerged, the neck, wheel and swingarm bearings will get wet and will need service soon thereafter to prevent rust.  Rust on the Strom swingarm bearings are common and well documented on the net. The air cleaner intake on the Strom is underneath the tank right behind the neck in the...

Hoeveel km het jou strom op???

20000km in 15 months, still too early to brag. No hassles yet except side-stand switch that was killed by a flying rock on a recent trip (with pillion) in the Memel area.  WILL get a bash plate before the next gravel.

Going to service the DL650 - which oil is best?

Not so sure about Magnatec.  The following from the Castrol website: https://magnatec.castrol.com/faqs.html 9. Can I use Castrol Magnatec in my motorcycle? We would not recommend using Castrol Magnatec in your bike. Castrol have a specialist range of Motorcycle oils engineered with Trizone...

    Headlight Lens

Depending on how deep the scratches are you can also use sand paper and brasso.  You start with fine (wet) papers in different stages and end with the brasso for the final polish. Just be carefull when the surface is tinted:  I 'fixed' a deep scratch on a helmet's 'clear' visor but ended up...

I love it, 6000km later. All trips are pleasure, even those to work.  Went to Clarence with pillion a while ago: At our combined 160kg+ (w/o baggage) the performance is more than enough for my riding style.  It feels much more a road bike compared to the KLR.  The suspension is much harder...

The 1000 is by far the way to go if you need all the extras.  ABS on tar is however is a big plus for your safety.

Why, except for the price?  Seems to me pretty much the same bike except for small changes (smaller oil cooler, smaller tank but better fuel consumption = same range at less $, changed plastics...)  ???

When I nagged KCR for my Wee last year (since October) I was told that there were at least 5 other customers also waiting for it.  I collected mine  just before Xmas, apparently no.1 of only 12 imported in 2011.  Within a week thereafter KCR had a white one on the floor.  In Februarie, 2 months...
