Porterville to Kampala - Please help with route suggestions

Good morning Dogs, I'm trying to plan a oneway ride from Porterville in the Western Cape to Kampala, Uganda. I only have a 14 day window to do this. The basic plan is to go up through Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and then finally into Uganda. But that is just the basic...

    Cederberg in the rain

Thanks Ultraflight, I knew there was a place around there somewhere but could not find the name. Heard it is a decent place to stay over so have been keen to try it out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Cederberg in the rain

Good morning, I am planning to ride into Cederberg mountains on Friday from the Citrusdal side and stay over at Oasis. Saturday planing to head into Tankwa via Katbakies. Seeing as there is a bit of rain coming in on Friday, is there any of the little streams in the Cederberg area that is...

    Found this abandoned old beauty...

It’s standing at an accommodation compound in Juba, South Sudan. The general vibe of its surroundings strongly suggest abandonment, but I haven’t actually inquired. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Found this abandoned old beauty...

Yes, to start with. It looks like it has been standing there for several years. Preliminary poking indicates that brakes, clutch and decompressor unlikely to function. From this I surmise that the entire thing will have to be stripped down. Maybe not the engine, but that’s just a guess at this...

    XT660 Z - Owners group

I’m not greatly concerned about cosmetics, and regardless, it looks neat enough for me anyway. What concerns me is just if it is a good idea to keep riding it like this. This Steenvas stuff seems solid enough, but would it not be a weak point? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    XT660 Z - Owners group

I went down going into Die Hel over the weekend and knocked hole in the left side crankcase cover (or that is what I think it’s called). Hole a bit smaller than a R2 coin. The friendly Pieter Joubert from Gamkaskloof guest farm patched it up with Steenvas for me and I was able to ride out after...

    My first puncture

OK, I'll stop being neurotic. Thanks for the advice everyone, really appreciate it! On to the next bike trip this weekend.

    My first puncture

I used the oil quite liberally. As the bead didn’t want to pop into place I plied it on in the hope it will help. But I didn’t pour it on, just applied with my fingers. So... maybe I should get that new set of tyres I’ve been planning to put on after this weekend’s trip, before this weekends...

    My first puncture

So now that I have actually used motor oil to lubricate the bead and the rim, where does that leave me? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

At the risk of exciting everybody even more... Got a 1m x 2m polytarp from Outdoor Ware house.

    My first puncture

I actually used to have a handful of bombs and yes, would have helped a lot. I think I'll get a few for the next trip.

    My first puncture

You actually manage to get enough pressure into the tyre with a hand pump to get the bead to pop into place? What type of hand pump is this? Might be good for a backup.
