    Doring River in the Cederberg

I was with GraZer on the same trip. We pushed some of the bikes through but I made use of the SAS Willehond  :-[ After seeing what was mixed with the oil on Dirty Harry's bike after his attempt  :o https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=164113.0 I was not happy with the length of time...

    Dakar 2013 (F5, F5, F5......)

Wasn't a serious theory guys but thanks for taking the bait. Correct the picture was from the day before but it shows the technology they are applying to this race. I know these things are not airheads (which ruled the Dakar 30years ago  :thumleft:) but is it really the best approach for a...

    Dakar 2013 (F5, F5, F5......)

My theory - the Speedbrain guys tried to go all Formula 1 on the Dakar,  remaped the FI on the bikes in the neutral zone for the altitude at the end of the stage, and got it wrong = sumultaneous "electrical problem" on more than one bike  :peepwall: Neutral zone between WP6 & 7, after that...

    Dakar 2013 (F5, F5, F5......)

If thats the case then the Yamaha effort is split over two completly different developments. This makes it really look small scale compared to the factory team game KTM, Honda and BMsqvarna are playing. Real underdogs - would be great to see them get a good result

    Dakar 2013 (F5, F5, F5......)

Anyone know what that ugly loop in the pipe of David Casteu's Yamaha Moto France bike is for? Increasing performance or reducing sound levels? I hope it has some purpose and that are not trying to start a new fasion because it looks really kak... Its not on the Yamaha Racing France bikes...

    Airhead casing refinishing

I would also be keen to try a tube and share postage. I used to wash my bike almost every week and that did a good job of keeping the corrosion away, even at the coast. After the accident though it stood for three months covered in mud and the casings no longer look like they should  :(

The R80 and R100 G/S Monolever and Paralever Owner's Club

Big thanks to Fudmucker for helping a downed dog with getting his airhead back on the road. He kindly donated a rear headlight housing to replace the one I trashed in the accident. Thanks Fud your generosity is much appreciated.  :thumleft:

    Airhead vs City Golf

Thanks for all the support guys  :thumleft: The HPN is a tough old girl and the damage is all just cosmetic but getting her to look her best is going to cost time and money. I don't have money to throw at her at the moment but I do have plenty of time. Frustrating thing is with my wrist and...

    Airhead vs City Golf

As some of you know after more than 10 years of incident free commuting in rush hour traffic my luck ran out recently  :'( I had been on an awesome 600km trip up to Anysberg with the Western Cape airhead boys on the weekend and was doing my work commute on Monday morning. This City Golf made a...

    Lane splitting and insurance liability

Thanks for the input guys. My bike is 30 years old. It was completely restored at a cost well in excess of what any insurance company would value it at so compressive insurance was never an option. I guess I could have and should have had 3rd party on it but I have always resented the way...

    Lane splitting and insurance liability

I hear what you are saying King Louis, that's why I am worried. No matter how many times people apologise at the scene of the accident there story always seems to change when the insurance claim gets submitted.  The idiot was driving a City Golf which will need a new front door and fender and...

    Lane splitting and insurance liability

I know there have been a few threads discussing lane splitting but I just want to check it anyone knows where you stand from an insurance point of view. I was taken out in the traffic this week by an idiot who tried to change lanes while I was along side him. The bike went down and slid into a...

The Green Kalahari Gathering 2012 - Please Post Pics & RR Here***

Looks like you guys had a great gathering  :thumleft: I am really sorry I missed it. The poor running of my bike ultimately kept me at home. I was struggling to try and sort my carbs out on Friday, still with the idea of riding straight through on Saturday but couldn't get it sorted. I...

Transforming a BMW 80G/S airhead oldie into a light and durable DS bike

Hey DH, I was discussing your front brake setup with superfoxi and it seem we have identical parts (Brembo caliper from KTM usually mated to an 11mm master cylinder working with stock g/s 12mm setup) I am interested to hear how your front brakes are working. Mine stops way better than the...

Transforming a BMW 80G/S airhead oldie into a light and durable DS bike

I have suffered from bad pinging with my Siebenrock conversion but I think my problem was made worse by reconditioning the heads (skimming them) at the same time. The standard Bosch starter could only just swing the motor when cold :mwink: Would really appreciate your jetting advice Fixit Good...

Ever dreamed about building an HPN?- Year 1 roundup

Thanks Jupiter, this was a really special project :drif: This is Sycomoto's  bike from the UK. He got in touch with me via this thread when he was still busy with the project. I sent him a hi res pic of my number boards that he had reproduced for his bike. It looks great now that its...

DAKAR 2012 - For the Tragics and Junkies

That move has really taken "Etterhansel" down an few notches in my book. I know he is under pressure to keep his lead but that was just not on  :angry3: He could have given the guy 2 seconds to push the bike to one side or even just to go around the other side of the bike. He actually hit the...
