There is no bendix on the 650 starter that I know of. The starter motor pinion is in constant mesh with an intermediate gear which drives another gear with a wedge-block freewheel, driving the crankshaft. (I think).

No - the noise started before my experiment. I only pressed it while the motor is running to try and find out where the sound is coming from.

The bike starts, but I did fully charge the battery and no improvement. So I can rule that one out.

I should probably replace my rear tyre. It is a Metzeler Sahara Enduro 3 with only about 3000 km left. Where do I get the Heid's? Tread similar to above tyre or maybe more knobbly.
