My girlfriends' dad has some issues with his 2007 F650GS. It only has 8000 kays on the clock. The other day while riding he said it just cut out and wouldn't start again. When he tried to start it again, the oil light came on and would not switch off. We have checked the oil - it's 100% fine. The bike cranks over, there is spark but it just does not roar into life. I think maybe it is a safety feature so that the bike does not run when the oil check light is on? Do the sensors on these bikes generally give hassles at such a low odo reading?
