If you ride a pre-2006 1200GS, and you want to change the final drive (diff) oil, dont stress.
BMW, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the diff oil dont get changed.
Then, on the 2006/7 models, BMW added a drain plug to the diff.
So - they want you to change the oil
Now the problem is that on the 2004, 2005, (and some 2006 models i think, dont flame me if I'm wrong) there is no drain plug under the diff, just a plug on the back.
Now, if you have been thinking of changing the final drive oil, but you were afraid of doing it, dont worry, its piece of piss.
Dead easy to do it.
Get the right oil.
Castrol Final Drive SAF XO
220 ml of it.
Then follow the step as pointed out by this kind fellow.

Few pics attached of my own effort.
Oh, and change the gearbox oil as well.
Its gets VERY DIRTY.
BMW are reluctant to change the final drive and gearbox oils when they service your bike. Its so easy and so cheap, I will from now on do it every 10,000k's.
