18 bikes, old compatriots, waterberg dirtroads, a stunning bushcamp on a gamefarm, lots of drinking holes (not of the H2O kind)................... Add all of these and you have a recipe for a successful weekend of hard riding, exceptional camaraderie and lots of laughs.............mainly due to Bender aka Speswillie :snorting:
The 7th annual Rebelrun to Zinyala included the usual culprits with a couple of new faces.
Some of the old timers like Hondsekierie and Minxy, Rooi and Arra, Bushtrotter, Franna, Bender, Smokes and myself were joined by Wouter Mol, Johan Jordaan, Kevin (Baglady), His son Dale and Dales friend Eaghan. Some other new faces were Hercules and Pierre (Allegro)
There were the usual plethora of KTM's to be seen. Two 500 6day monsters, a 640 Adv, 6 Superenduro's, 3 990's, an 1190R were graced with the presence of a Yammie Superten, a fully laden, panniered, 1200 Adv and a brand new 2016 Honda CRF Africa Twin.
These bikes parked in a row is a sight to be seen. :thumleft:
The real fire drill for the 3 big non KTM's would be to cross the mountain to the bushcamp. The road is fairly steep on both sides and by cage only accessible in four or all wheel drive. For first timers the hill can be a little daunting and the larger and heavier the bike the greater the challenge.
From previous experience we know that the larger KTM's can clear the hill fairly easily but Frankie on the Superten, Hercules on the 1200 Adv and Arra on the AT took on the challenge and breezed over the hill very non-chalantly. Although the new Rumbux crashbars on the AT came to very good use and Franna's 990 got another couple of designer scratches, there were no real damage to any of the bikes
The weekend started with most of us meeting at the Shell garage in Cullinan on Friday morning to ride via Rustde Winter to Naboomspruit for a lunch at our favourate watering hole, Sashas owned by the allways helpful Alida and her daughter Sasha Lee.
