ABS vs Non ABS on Dualsport

How important is ABS on a dualsport bike?

I am looking at purchasing a GS1200 or GS800 without ABS.Is this a mistake?
I will be doing a lot of gravel travel to Baviaans, Die Hel etc but will also be doing commuting and highway travel.

KTM 990 Adventure s and now R do not come with abs ,yet it remains avery popular bike.

Advice?
