Advice on a 2007 Suzuki DL 650 VStrom Dual Purpose

This weekend i am checking out this bike for a mate... I know nothing for Suzuki... 

Is it a good solid bike?  He intends to use it for commuting and the usual shenanigans on the weekends etc.
