Took a short trip down to Baja with four other guys this past weekend. We only had three days, so we stuck to Baja Norte. The peninsula is called Baja California and Mexico divides it into a north and a south state.

Our first day took us through the border at Tecate then south via Laguna Hanson. This is where a guy like us was killed back in February. He hit a truck head-on somehow. It was probably a blind crest or turn. You really have to watch for that out there.
We ended up at Mike's Sky Rancho, which is kind of a legend amongst Baja dirt racers. It started out as a hunting lodge but the drug dealers were using the landing strip nearby to transport drugs so the government shut the airstrip. Since the 60's or early 70's it's mainly catered to guys like me and the racing teams of various Baja 500/1000, Mexican 1000 teams.
We ran into the editorial staff of Overland Journal, the group that had just hosted the annual Overland Expo in Flagstaff, Arizona the week before. They were on nice bikes all outfitted by Touratech, USA, so we were of course jealous. It's funny, you would think there would be a point you'd get tired of talking about motorcycles, but that didn't occur that night.
Saw a lot of trucks pre-running the 500 course
Had to get moving Friday to outrun this thunder storm
Mike's Sky Rancho is okay but for $70 it's kind of expensive for Mexico. They do include dinner and breakfast, but still. We had frogs in our bathroom and discovered they hide underneath the toilet tank. Really nice.
The next day we headed over to the west coast and had lunch in Punta Colonet then rode out to the beach to ride on the beach and in some dunes
There were three Eric's and this one found his bike got sleepy. Right after that, a cessna buzzed us (video). I expected maybe a drug drop but that's just in the movies I think.
Found a cool sea cave
After that it was a lot of the 500 course into Erendira where we stayed at Coyote Cal's. Super big hard whoops and rocks.
Saw some more pre-runners
Took a break
Made it to Coyote Cal's and we were all very tired. The owner's wife is Thai and a professional massage therapist. That was the best massage I've ever had. Food was great too.
Third day we opted to get home quicker so we took pavement up through Ensenada and over to Ojos Negros where we picked up the compadre trail north to Tecate. Got some really great tacos there before crossing back through the border.
There's always a long line of cars but because the bikes are air-cooled, they let you go to the front
And two more earned their stickers
