My biker buddy, Garreth, was on the "bully beef" run with Michael Steyn to the Makgadikgadi pans, when a bakkie cut his trip short...
They were riding near Steenbokpan, close to Ellisras when Garreth tried to pass the bakkie on the right. As he was passing, the bakkie suddenly turned right into a driveway without indicating - knocking Garreth and his bike across the road into a ditch and storm water drain. Fortunately this happened about 300m from a bike rally, so the medics looked after him until we could arrive with the trailer about 6 hours later.
The bike is not too bad all things considered: screen, spots, crashbars, pod protectors and panniers and frames all took a hard knock.
Garreth had a very sore arm, sore knee, and generally felt a bit beaten up. Xrays this morning revealed his arm is broken in two places, also some possible elbow and hand damage. He's been booked into Pretoria East and they will probably operate later today.
