I recently purchased some new rubber for the KLR and was looking for a bead breaker. I could not find anything suitable and was not prepared to upward of $100 for one either.
The last tire change was a PITA and ended up pickup the leg from a work wooden work bench and resting that on the tire to pop the bead. That got me thinking....
Here is my home made model. The pictures should tell the story. Basically 2" x 4" pieces of wood, two steel brackets for the pivot point and a hinge.
Made it really easy to break the beads on both the front and rear when I took off a set of new Michelin T63's
The first picture shows how it would setup on the tire
The second shows a little foot to rest the tire on and prevent the leverage from lifting my racking
The last is the bead breaker in stowed position
