Bike idling very high after running low on fuel - what do I check ?

I ran low on fuel & did not switch to reserve - tried coasting downhill for a while before stopping and switching to reserve.

A little while later the bike was suddenly idling very high & I had to use the brakes & clutch to control my speed downhill.
It is almost idling at full throttle (or certainly sounds that way).

Where do I look for this problem ?

I have checked the air filter (which had come loose, & presumed it could be related), idle/air screw, throttle cable & accelerator grip - but what to check ?

Short of stripping the carb, I am  not sure what has caused this problem.

Any advice will really be appreciated.
