Having encountered a tree with the HP this weekend, I smashed the little plastic bottle atop the master cylinder, and cannot repair it. Two things irritate me about replacing it from BMW:
1. The web is full of pictures of guys who have slotted in any pre-LC GS reservoir, and the 800 one also fits right on, if you include the bobble bracket. BMW however, insist it is an HP-specific part, and will charge accordingly.
2. To replace this plastic part, I need the reservoir, master cylinder, lever, wing mirror assembly, and possibly the entire front end of the bike. Will charge accordingly.
BMW has lost one of their biggest fans. I signed up to ride the bike, not be a cash cow for a multinational corporation.
So, anyone with bits of a GS, 800 or 1200, or even an HP, please look out for the brake fluid reservoir, and drop me a line.
