The first BoosterPlug was installed on a XT660Z Tenere to address the flat spot at +-3000 rpm. Poor low rpm roll on made that you had to feather the clutch at low rpm out of corners to get a smooth exit. The BoosterPlug modifies the AIT (Air Intake Temperature) sensor signal to the EFI system, telling it that the mixture should be 6% richer under acceleration, deceleration and idle. Startup is easier, bike pulls stronger from idle and increases the usable rpm range.
Poor fueling is an issue on all modern bikes and the BoosterPlug counters the very lean AFR (air fuel ratio) to make a good bike run really well.
The addition of an aftermarket pipe typically aggravates the effect of lean mixtures as the bike is breathing better but also running leaner, and the BoosterPlug does well to offset the effect and provide a smoother ride.
