Hey Guys

Reading thru a thread on Diesel motorcycles in the general section (https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=31223.0) Schlowy proposed a local diesel motorcycle. Seems like there is alot of this going on in Europe, ie building a diesel bike from parts. Some of the bikes are really impressive, have a look at this:

So with the idea of building a diesel bike I made a few inquiries. The bike in the youtube above uses a Lombardinni LDW1003 diesel engine, a 1028cc, water cooled, 3 cylinder engine. In this particular case, the engine has been turbo charged.

This engine is available locally for about R40k. There is also a 2 cylinder varient, of 686cc. Although the pricing is much the same...

The transmission in the above u-tube is a CVT. Now on that score I'd be stumped to even know where to start looking for a suitable CVT transmission....

I really like the idea of a diesel bike for commuting and doing serious milage.

Lets face it, a diesel bike would never be seen on the MX track, but just imagine where you could go.... Diesel is available everywhere... And the range!!

What do you guys think?? If anybody was going to do it in this country, I'm guessing it would be a Wild Dog...

So more details, the 2 cylinder weighs 66kg and 40.5Nm, the 3 cylinder weighs 87kg and 67Nm. To put it into context, a GSA 1200 makes 120Nm and a 990 Adv makes 100Nm and a F800GS makes 80Nm....
