Buying a bike really long distance - from Germany

Hi Guys

I would appreciate any thoughts, comments, input etc anyone can provide - what are your thoughts on buying a bike from Germany? What about things like import duties, insurance while it's being shipped, registering the bike in SA (is this a problem)? etc.

I have a very sound contact who has an import licence and who has a contact in Germany. Perhaps we can also use this for future imports of products if there is an interest etc? At this stage I have the opportunity of buying a bike from there at a very good price but understandably am a little nervous.
