Castle Rock back of Ongeluks Nek
This weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to one of Iain McDonald’s rides from his farm in Matatiele. I joined a dozen adventure riders from Zululand who had asked Iain to set them an extreme adventure ride. Iain was good to his brief and worked out a 270km loop of which 60km was an extreme ride up to the top of Castle Rocks followed by a ride along the escarpment to the back of Ongeluks Nek. Accommodation and meals was provided by Iain and his wife Jen and my old mate Stuart Joyner came along as a chaperon.
It was pretty extreme. One guy lost his beemer down a a 2m deep rock slit that took 14 local herdsmen to get out along with all of his loose money. By the end of the day I had been completely cleaned out of the stock of Myprodol that I usually carry with me.
Pictures are (Iain) at Iain's farm, the top of Castle Rocks while I was having lunch waiting for the guys to come through and pictures of the couple of guys that made it. The man on Stuart’s KTM 450 is the local Vet. He was having a ball!
