This is for my 990 but I guess it applies to all bikes.
As far as I understand it, the most accurate way of ascertaining how much slack your chain needs is to get the axle, counter shaft and pivot all lined up, as this is the point at which the chain will be tightest.
This is a once-off mission as you can take a measurement there and refer back to it in future.
Is this right?
Then, how do I get my bike to that point on my own? A guy on ADVRider used a ratchet strap through the back wheel and over the pillion seat to compress the rear. It sounds like the kind of thing that will work well but do harm to something somewhere :dontknow:
I'd obviously set the rear preload to minimum first. Thoughts?
