Cost of aftermarket motorcycle slip ons

I have been looking for a few bits and bobs for my bike and have noticed the price of aftermarket slip ons. I know there are R&D costs but I don't understand why they are so expensive. Saw one for R24 899. R&D costs are recovered at some point in time but it would appear there is a perpetual cost element attached to the sale price. I may be being extremely simplistic but it is overall a jazzed up steel/carbon canister.

If the market is there at these prices then good for the manufacturers, I just can't understand the high price.
