Hi Guys

Planned a house project, part of which is a 35m2 outdoor patio. Been getting quotes and builder mates advice. Looking for more...

Deck is raised and is in the sun most of the day, slightly covered by trees, and will get wet every afternoon for 5 months a year. Possibly going for clip fastening or stainless screws (at the correct distance apart).

Balau or Red Ironbark? Will be treated and maintained once a year.

I have heard that balau is actually not the best decking wood (always thought it was), and red ironbark is better
  • less likely to warp or "cup/boat"
  • is harder and less prone to scuffs/damage
  • is less prone to infestation
  • slightly cheaper (marginally), so cost is not the issue

They honestly look the same, except colour difference. Need advice from okes who have either/both for a few years to get real opinions. Want a maintenance free deck for 15-20 years (will be treated yearly or so), that looks good.

Let me know anyone.
