Does Riding Bikes Make Sense?

Ive been riding off road for a year whilst training for the Roof 2012 Bronze Class. What extreme fun.
The riding cost me R60000 for the gear, bike, fuel, accommodation, Race licences, spares etc. 
I clocked up about 300hrs of absolute pleasure.

4 January 2013 I fell off and shattered my knee. Its been 450 hrs of pain. 
Apart from the fact that the Op, hospital and meds will cost over R40000 and a month away from my business

I know this sound pessimistic but I cant help but ask - Does this make sense?
