Doohickey Spring/Lever - Alternative fix?

Hi everyone,

just found this photo on KLR650.net which shows that this guy mover his lever by 180 degrees on the shaft to reposition the stock spring for better tension.
Any ideas on this? Not sure why he opted to do it like this.  I must admit it's the first time i see this being done. ???
