So this couple of easter holidays me and my dad and my brother set off for a 7 day trip into southern namibia, my first proper bike trip so this was kind of a big deal, this will be mostly a photo trip report as I'm not a man of many words...
Filling up took time, lots of pumps but only one petol joggie, after some time on the bikes we didn't really complain
First night stop from cape town, great hospitality and some free and well deserved beers on arival at Hondeklipbaai kennels
Pose with the 1200gsa, 650gs and 650 funduro
Great piece of tar on our way to Kleinsee
I'm quite a novice when it comes to sandy gravel and this piece between Kleinsee and Port Nolloth was quite a challenge
Some crappy fish and chips sorted us out for the trip from Port Nolloth to Steinkopf
We take a break on the pass between Port Nolloth and Steinkopf, very happy to pull into some corners for the first time in quite a while
Into Namibia!
The newly tarred road from Vioolsdrif to Noroshama was great
Very quiet road outside Noroshama, the gs poses for a photo
After an expensive and unimpresive stay at Noroshama river lodge with no water in the morning and some very diiferent road reports from different travellers, we hit the "closed" road to Rosh Pinah, this turned out to be the most fun route of the whole trip, with a lot of sand sections and some thick sand on the washed away fish river crossing
Not a lot of traffic on our way from Rosh Pinah to Aus. Filling up at Rosh Pinah we saw two 800gs riders in very fancy suits, they did not pay much attention to us, obviously not wilddogs...
Stop over was at Klein Aus Vista, Lekke place but freazing, we sat around the fire drinking red wine in full atgatt
Our next destination was a day trip to Luderitz, the sand storms were amazing, for about 30kms from luderitz the sand covered the road like a blanket of about half a meter high, we went round left hand corners leaning right, amazing. I did not get a photo of this, at that stage we just wanted to get out of it.
Bikes at the church in Luderitz
The Church
Diaz Cross, we have a beer before tackling the windy gravel road back to Luderitz
After about 30k's out of Luderitz the wind just stopped, we take a break to reflect on the hectic conditions we just rode through
We reach base camp at Aus for another freazing night with some lamb chops, garlic bread and red wine for comfort
Next day its off to Ai-Ais, with temps reaching as low as 12 degrees in the afternoon, only bringing summer gloves I'm thankfull for heated grips!
Before one of the few river crossings my sleeping bag comes undone and I take the time to take a photo
Canon Road Lodge, old cars, pertrol, beer and mushroom and bacon toast!
Ai-Ais is buzzing as always and lots of people comes over for a chat, wanting to know where we've been, where we're going etc etc we had a great time here
We leave Ai-Ais and head back to Noordoewer, we take the time for a nicely posed shot when we reach tar for the first time in 300kms
Refueling in Garies heading back to cape town. Seeing as taking it easy means the gs can do 300kms+ on a tank the emergency pertrol was never used. Through out this trip I was amazed at what this little 650 can do, we might have just been lucky but travelling about 2500k's on everything from badly corrugated gravel, loose gravel, rocky gravel and sand we had no problems, no punctures, no issues.
