I just received the entry forms and rules and regulations for this year's Economy Run.  It will be run on the weekend of the 21st of August...

Good day All my Biking Friends, Wives, Girlfriends and Others,

The winter struck with a vengeance which can only mean one thing, the weather is going to be SUPER BIKE WEATHER during THE event of the year, the 2008 RFS BIKE ECONORUN

The news is that the Regulations (rules and specifications) is now available and together with the entry forms can be downloaded from one of the two websites, www.rfsolutions.co.za or www.econorun.co.za courtesy of Stefan Olivier from Penguins Consulting. You may read more about him on www.penguins.com.

Please download the entry form and the licence application and enter on line or fax your entry. We will however need your original license application at documentation or you may obtain your competition license directly from MSA at Kyalami. Faxed applications will not be accepted. We will also on request e-mail or fax the relevant forms to you.

We have changed the format slightly to enable old friends to meet on Thursday already, you may refuel anytime from 12h00 the Thursday afternoon 21 August at Forever Resort Loskopdam whereafter your bike will be parked in the Parc Ferme and you can renew old friendships. A map and directions to Forever Loskop (the Old Aventura) will be supplied later on. The best way is N4 through Middelburg to Groblersdal and although you may fuel up until 22h00, we will advise you all to try to make it to Loskop before dark, thereby ensuring that you arrive on time without any mishaps with the Kudu’s and of course then you have more time to renew the friendships from previous years! Janine and Brand from the Forever Resort is going to entertain us on a super buffet and entertainment.

The first bike will then start early on Friday morning to end some hours later the day after an undisclosed route, at the Infamous Willie and Lovely Edna Fick’s Hotel Numbi in Hazyview, where many cold beers will be waiting to quench the thirst and helps to ease the numb bums.

On Saturday we have a shorter run from Numbi to Numbi to await the scorer’s final decisions with anticipation next to the pool. Will The Alpina Tean of Denver Biggs walk away with the trophies again or will Graham Mephius or Peter de la Rey regain form? Do not forget about Sean James or Bobby Scott from Honda or friend Arnold with the Triumphs and Kawa’s. Low and behold we may even have a winner from Suzuki or HD/ Buel not to forget all the other interested parties. I hear rumours that Eric Texeira want to enter the new 125 cc BMW scooter in the pillion class! Oh shucks their goes their scoop. The dark horse of course is Yamaha, does anybody know what they are up to? Our Sponsor RFS Boss Chris Du Plooy, bought a Diesel Vespa Scooter directly from Europe, I am not sure where he wants to enter it as it is a left hand drive model!

The many other manufacturers can of course easy be the surprise of the weekend.

We plan a “Mini Scooter/small Bike “run as well, should we receive enough interest we will provide details of this later on. This event will be a shorter and slower version of the main run over a shorter and different course during the same time..

We must hereby apologise that the fee’s are higher than before, please blame the economy, crude oil suppliers and Bob Mugabe. You will however receive very good value and entertainment for your money.

Willie and Edna will also supply a very good rate should you elect to stay over on the Sunday evening for the after party at the Pool on Sunday.

That’s all folks, please get the entries rolling and do not hesitate to call us with any queries. Please remember to include proof of full payment with your entry which is on a “first come first accepted “ basis.

Regards from Francois, Hannes and Team.

So, who's keen?  I've been contemplating doing this for a couple of years now, and am actually in a position to do it this year.  Probably going to do it on the Z, as the KLR is a bit heavy on the sous, especially considering the competition in its class (650 GS for one), and probably will be doing it with a pillion as well  8)
