Okay, guys, as I am new to this I would like a snapshot of what you think are absolute essentials in terms of safety equipment for a first time rider. I am not talking about extravagently expensive tents that double as teapots and roll up into a bag no bigger than a tobacco pouch. I'm talking the basics to get me to work and back and to the dam or a little hour or two's round trip along a back road while I build up a little experience before tackling the mountain passes. I need to start my equipment collection somewhere and essentials seems a good place to begin.
