Faded black plastic restoration (top box).

I have an old Kappa top box that is faded and would like to restore the plastic to the origional/near origional look without the use of silicone.  I read somewhere that there is an technique to it by going over with a flame and wiping it with asetone or parrifin with a lint free rag.  Can someone confirm this and perhaps give any more advice?  Many thanks.  :thumleft:
