When an upcountry friend decided to take the long journey down to Cape Town, we thought it our duty to ride out and meet him as
far up as the weekend would allow. It was decided that Matjiesfontein would be the spot and that we'd spend the night at Gatsrivier.
The roads are fantastic, we were running a bit early when we got to the Gatsrivier turnoff, so we decided to ride to the farm, drop off our luggage and head to Matjiesfontein from there.
We had a rest on the stoep, took a quick swim and headed out to Matjies.
We found Joseph infront of the Matjiesfontein Hotel, he had arrived early (or we arrived late he claims) and had settled in under the shade of a tree sipping on a beer. We planned on filling up in Matjiesfontein, but learned there is no fuel, so off we went to Laingburg to fill up.
We had a few drinks with out host Hennie at his lapa, then tackled the rocky track back to our house. Hennie and Anet had organized us some lamb tjops and roosterkoed, much more luxury than we are used to on a trip like this.
The next morning we were once again spoiled with breakfast at the lapa, before hitting the road back to Ceres via the Tankwa padstal and Katbakkies pass.
Although short, this was one of my best trips yet, great roads, great accommodation and great hosts at Gatsrivier.
