Ordered a US army surplus Military Sleeping System (MSS) from the states, and it arrived today after a long time getting here (Amazon won't ship it to the RSA).
Supposed to be rated to -40 degrees (will never see close to those temperatures here, but I shouldn't get cold, even in the worst local winter).
It has a Gortex outer layer, which should make it waterproof, but still breathe, and has two separate inner bags, so you can chose to sleep with one in milder weather, or two if it's really cold.
Now I must just organise a camping trip on the DR to try it out.
