So the missus gave me the proverbial "pink ticket" for last weekend to get out of the house and ride. I  decided to visit my mate in bethlehem and promptly fired up google earth to look for a suitable route.

Took N3 to heidelberg past the vall dam wall, stopped for the mandatory pic

Then proceed past Deneysville to s44 where the tar ended and the gravel began. Good gravel road with a few parts that had a serious lot of "marbles". This road takes you to Heilbron - approximately 50kms Beware as you enter the "informal settlement" just outside the town, heavily corrugated corner entering settlement and also almost ran over a litter of piglets crossing the road......
On entering Heilbron turn left on the main road as if heading back towards Sasolburg and enjoy a lekker brekie at OJs (at Total garage).

Then proceed on 57 towards Petrus Steyn, as you pass the "Heilbron" (dam) turn first left (before Bridge) towards 34 (Frankfort), at T junction turn right go over bridge and approximately 3kms find a the 725 (I think theres a sign called skietkop or something like that) lovely tar winding road until you hit gravel road again - you are now travelling towards Lindley. Awesome gravel road - approxomately 60 kms - combination of treed lanes, a few spots with soft sand, single bridges and winding roads.

Near the end of the gravel road you will get a T junction turn left until you reach the tar then right tiwards Lindley. You can either go past Lindley or through it. Take the latter route as it is a very interesting "platteland dorp" tar and gravel roads in town et al.

You can then jump onto the 76 to Bethlehem - the most potted road in SA
Total distance one way is 320kms.

A good suggestion is then to overnight at Fairview Estates (www.fairviewestates.co.za). An awesome farm with between Bethlehem and Fouriesberg. Make sure you ask Corlia Boshoff (owner) for directions that will enable you to ride through the farm from the Bethlehem side - its abot 20kms of gravel road that includes two mini sani like passes! Awesome ride and view. My suggestion is stay at the damn caravan or twin towers. From there you can exit out the "other end" of the farm and head towards Clarens and Lesotho - again approximately 20kms of winding awesome garvel roads and the 27kms to Clarens on a tar road that winds through the mountains.

Enjoy! I certainly did.
