I am just testing the water to see if there would be interest from some of our Dog friends in something like this. One of the problems that we have in the platteland is that all the funds raised for the school, old aged home, boere vereniging, sports clubs, church etc. always comes out of the community. We have been toying with different thoughts and one of them is a Boere Rally where we get some external participants as well as some of the locals.

The idea is that we get entrants to compete in teams of two or three. Entrants will be able to pitch a tent on the cricket field and use their ablution facilities as well or make use of the several guest houses in town, if so preferred. The suggestion is for entrants to arrive on the Friday afternoon / evening, pitch the tent, join a braai or enjoy something at the Cricket club pub. Just chillax and get to know your opponents.

Saturday morning early you will get a map / GPS coords of where to go (about 300 km along the more scenic routes in the area) Teams will leave at intervals and there will be several (5-10) compulsary stop points along the way with a certain activity for each team to do at each point. These might include some or all of the team members to shoot 5 clay pigeons and get points allocated by what was missed/hit. Next stop might require the timed removal and refit of a front tire on one of the team member's bikes, identification of 10 game species commonly found in the area and or 3 tree species for instance. There might also be something like hitting a specific sized target with a hunting rifle at one of the stops before the team might continue.

The idea is to have fun, but the team with the best combined skills in these items has the best chance of winning. Prices might include a Kudu hunt with lesser species as second price, or a lamb, cut and packed to your specification and preference. Should you not be a hunter or maybe vegetarian, the price can be auctioned during the Saturday evening while we have a spitbraai or something similar.

This is just a thought at this stage. Would some of you be interested in something like this? The format is not cast in stone, so any suggestions will be welcome.
