I was riding along on my 2008 KLR two days ago when the bike suddenly cut out while cruising. I down geared, dropped the clutch, but nothing. No lights, indicators, neutral light. Nothing. Dead.  ???

I rinsed the bike just before I left home that day and had a full tank of fuel. After a 3 km push back home I switched on the computer and searched the KLR database,

etc. and discovered the main 20A fuse had blown. I did some maintenance on the indicator brackets that day so checked that I didn't accidentally pull out a wire and cause a potential short. Couldn't see anything. I also bled the brakes that day so I checked the break light wires. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Some time later another fuse was blown, the tank was off and I was inspecting the loom for possible abrasion points. Nothing obvious. However, when I put in a fresh fuse and turned on the ignition there was a sound coming from behind the odometer box (technically the front) that sounded like fizzling wire. I tried to see in all the nooks and crannies but my headlamp is only that good.

By this time it was well into the night and I left it for another day. Just then there was a small spark behind the odo box and yet another fuse blew. There are no flash marks on the box from the spark and i cannot see a wire that looks burnt.

Yesterday I came home and inspected the bike in the daylight. Once again, nothing obvious wrong. I still can't see any flash marks from the small spark the previous night and no damaged/burnt looking wires. There was also the absence of the sound of fizzling wires. I tried starting the bike. Viola! She starts first time.

Sooo, I'm thinking that when I rinsed my bike I must have got some connectors wet that fused. Now that the bike is dry it seems that there is no problem.

Is there anything I missed that is so obvious it stared me in the face the whole time?  :lamer: Or anything not so obvious that anyone might know about that I should check out?
