So everyone who has the African Rallye-fever, including me, is building, has build, or is planning to build a rallye bike. Its no secret that I wanted something with a decent service interval and higher capacity above the 450cc range, although the latter is lighter. As with mountain-biking, I always reckon, its easier for me to loose 10kg than pay R30k more for a bike that weighs 3kg less.
Now the champion for many years was the KTM 690 Rallye Replica. So I will start here.
The stats:
Model: KTM 690 Rally Replica
Year: 2009
Category: Enduro / offroad
Displacement: 654.00 ccm (39.91 cubic inches)
Engine type: Single cylinder, four-stroke
Power: 62.08 HP (45.3 kW)) @ 7500 RPM
Torque: 64.00 Nm (6.5 kgf-m or 47.2 ft.lbs) @ 6000 RPM
Dry weight: 138.5 kg (305.3 pounds)
Power/weight ratio: 0.4482 HP/kg
Make Model: KTM 690 LC4 Enduro R
Year: 2011-12
Engine: Liquid Cooled, four stroke, single Cylinder. SOHC, 4 Valve per cylinder,
Capacity: 653.7
Max Power: 63 hp 46.KW @ 7500 rpm
Max Torque: 65 Nm 47.9 ft-lb @ 6550 rpm
Transmission / Drive: 6 Speed / chain
Dry weight: 138.5 kg / 305.4 lbs
Power/weight ratio: 0.4548 HP/kg
So the newer KTM 690 Enduro R has the same specs, and is actually 0.01 HP/Kg :deal: better than the KTM Rally Replica, and should cost you less than R150k to put together.
My own tests showed that my Oryx R does the following:
Top speed on tar: 183km/h GPS
Top speed on sandy road: 176km/h GPS (more fun than tar!! >) (Hopefield to Darling on Sandveld road)
Range with 450 Rally tanks: 300km. (still had 4 litres in tanks, although fuel light was on for 100km)
Survivability: Good. Had a issue with a tractor crossing the road outside Darling on the rail-way service line and went flying for about 20m. Right tank has no stickers, and a couple of scratches. Steering was a bit skew, but that's to be expected.
A rallye bike for the masses then! :thumleft:
