KTM is working on a new 1200cc Adventure model to be launched in 2012.
That's the latest news on the KTM Adventure front according to Dutch motoring website Nieuwsmotor which recently visited the Austrian company’s factory in Mattighofen.
According to the article, KTM had been working for some time on a replacement for the ageing 990 Adventure. At the end of the development process, however, the plug was pulled by KTM CEO Stefan Pierer because he felt the KTM’s styling was too similar to BMW’s F 800 GS.
Another reason why the development of the Adventure’s successor has apparently taken this long was that the new engine need to be compatible with completely fresh electronic systems such as traction control.
For support on that front KTM has again turned to Porsche, which also assisted with the development of the anti-lock braking on the Supermoto T model.
In the article KTM’s head of R&D for road models, Robert Prielinger, is quoted as saying that riders can expect the 2012 model to be available with three engine sizes - 1200cc, 1000cc and a mid-weight 700cc or 800cc. This will pitch the Adventure much more successfully against main rival BMW’s models.
