I was not going to do a RR of our little ride into the North part of the Valley on Saturday as I have blasted this forum with "Gunda does the Valley" pics and Ride Reports, but there were two bits of road we took that I have never been on that are worth riding and including in your next ride - if you are up that way.
. . . and Bonova asked that I post a couple of pics from my "upgrade" helmet cam (the short-arsed Drift HD) to see what they look like.
The saturday ride was only conceived on Thursday when I called MadDog for DSTV and handyman advice, but by the end of the conversation we had formulated a rough plan to see if we could get near the bottom of the Mgeku and Msilili waterfalls in the North West corner of the Valley of 1000 hills.
I posted a late "planning" thread and was delighted that Bonova could make the third bike on the ride.
Did we get to the bottom of the falls? Nope. But we had a lot of fun trying, and just being out there. And now when I look at the GPS log in Google Earth I can see where we went wrong and it gives me another excuse to go back !
The route. The bits new to us were the "finger" cul-de-sac up North along the Mqeku river, and the detour loop we took getting there.
On the way we noticed there was low cloud at the top of Nanda mountain, so we took a ride on the top to go and watch it.
Bonova noticed I had picked up a passenger with my centre stand - could have been nasty if the baling wire had wrapped itself around my back sprocket, but there was no hrm done.
The support team looking on.
A picture of me taking a picture.
The picture I was taking.
"Is that thing working?" - Yes.
On the detour down to the Mqeku river - A road well worth riding.
On the road up along the Mqeku river - lovely bit of road with the high cliffs on either side.
The road ends at a school.
We rode a short way along a path before we could get no closer to the falls and headed back.
last time I visited with Bonova it was pissing down and he did not believe me that there were falls, so this was just to show him that there ARE falls there.
Off to theCopper Pot and Kettle for Cappuccino !
