The search begins.. A mate has been given a DR 650 with a poked motor. When he approached me to get it running, I looked at the damage and I figured that a replacement engine is going to be the most viable option.
The engine has a broken piston, a very damaged cylinder and a destroyed big end.
I can only assume that oil starvation has caused the damage..
Given the scarcity of these bikes in such broken down form, I am considering all options, such as a spare cylinder head, a cylinder and a crank. If the cylinder has a good piston with it, even better..
Or an engine, if someone snows of one that is available...
