Losper’s scenic route/North Tsoelike river/Debbie’s very big adventure!

Most of you on this forum will be aware that Losper keeps on punting a road that runs North of the Tsoelike (Pron: sodeeky) river between Quacha’s and Sehlabathebe (pron: sesh la ba tebe) as one of the more scenic roads in Lesotho and advising visitors to include it in their itinerary. I have been on bits of it during Iain McDonald’s Rock Rabbits 7 bridges extreme enduro ride and  also when I’ve been riding plastics with Stuart Joyner in the Tsoelike valley and I was very impressed with what I saw.

However, the trip through the Tsoelike valley is enough in itself to make a trip worthwhile and when my wife said that she wanted to ride her own bike in Lesotho for her birthday trip rather than sit on the back I was happy to oblige. The road itself is not much of a challenge; you could do it in your car, the Beemer and trailer brigade would be able do it without any tales of life threatening challenges, but as my wife observed – if you are going to see Lesotho properly you need to do it on a bike.

We did this as a round trip from Iain McDonald’s farm. He was a busy boy that weekend. He had Travis Teasdale, Blake Gutziet and a bunch of roof hopefuls for a roof training weekend. On Saturday he took them on his famous 7 bridges extreme route and for Sunday had planned an approach up de Kocks gate and an extreme frontal assault on the escarpment but they were all worn out from the first day and went home instead.

The ride I did with Debbie is a 200km odd round trip (GPS track attached) from Quacha’s Nek returning through Ramatseliso’s Gate. As Losper says, a truly fantastic ride and we both enjoyed it very much. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. In the pictures I have the sign posts at the turn offs to the suspension bridge, the North Tsoelike road and the A4 to home as they are easy to miss. It is an easy ride, we left around 8am and got back at 3.45pm. Ian
