Early wednesday 1 May... Nothing happened 'cos we were all tired and slept in :imaposer:
Around 10am-ish we had brekfis at Lephalale's semi new MacDonalds. Having just started working here last year I've been keen to get a bike and do some exploring, after having got the bike I managed to find mates to ride with. And so with two chinese 250's and two hondas, we set off to tackle a road that turned out to be way more awesome than I expected!
Unfortunately as it goes I only have pics of where the road looks like tar gravel, does in no way illustrate the hardcore mountainside climb or the lekker sand patches that we waded through.
In any case here are a few pics of my first bit of bike exploration, with the hope of super much more to come :thumleft:
Snow on left and rob on right get ready
Sabre wears a checkered rugby jersey on top of his leather bike jacket "in case i go down and damage the jacket"??!!!
We all carried some snacks and drinks for halfway...
Sabre's happy face
Snow is afraid his jacket makes it look like he has "nice hips..."
Rob on the pizza bike for the lead!
Sabre in hot, well jacketed, pursuit :
Snow always takes the time to enjoy the view while riding
I figure out in order to adventure ride one has to get on the bike first
Here we go!
Ummm... I did feel very awkward. all the chinese steel made it, even the pizza bike... then I go down in a big sand splash!
At this point we are mostly over the Witkoppe mountains and really sliding over the loose rocks. We took a break here 'cos the climb was pretty tough, lots of erosion as well as humps trying to prevent further erosion. Snow and I become concerned since his front tyre is looking pretty flat, I suggest going back to the closest game farm and asking for bakkie help (we dont have all the repair kits yet and only 50km from home so no stress). It was then decided to push on...
Now we can see the tar road, dirt part done and dusted, all parties confess the adventure bug has bitten the hard!
Rob is so happy the pizza bike made it he nearly smiles... :ricky:
As stated at the beginning, this photo is not at all representative of 90% of the road :-\
Adventure biking newborns...
Now just 50km back on tar
First stop was 10km from lephalale. Sabre's tiny 5L tank was empty so we transferred from my transalp. Half a kay down the road we find snow and rob. snow's front tyre now completely flat... Bigboy came out from town to pick him up, sad his ride had to end like that.
Sabre went on the ride with apprehension, now, he loves offroad :thumleft:
And that's it ladies and gentlemen. Thanks to Avontier for the route, this is the first of many!
