Guys, I recently tried out some of that new merino wool technical base layer stuff in freezing Lesotho and yesterday in freezing Bloem (it was serious nipple stand stuff at De Brug early morning).

The stuff works great.

As far as moisture wicking is concerned, I'd say its on par or very close to synthetic stuff like polypropylene. The biggest benefits though, is that it's quite soft and pleasant on the skin and that it doesn't pong as much as the synthetic stuff.

You know how it stinks at the end of a hard days' riding... the wool has barely a whiff.

Washing and general care is fairly straightforward.

It's not cheap, but I'd say it's on par with the synthetic gear from leading brands like CapeStorm, Adidas, The North Face and HellyHansen.

Plus it really feels nice on my nipples.

You can go to www.coremerino.co.za for pics and details.
