Guys, I just got this mail from the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists - Reuben was on the 800 GS launch as well. Young oke:

"Reuben van Niekerk, senior staff writer at Car & Leisure magazine, survived a horror crash on the N1 South involving 5 cars, his motorcycle and a truck on Friday 22 February 2008. Van Niekerk was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle travelling in a Southernly direction just past the Rivonia offramp when a truck on the opposite side of the highway lost control, burst over the middle man, and collided with oncoming traffic. He was unfortunately struck by this truck.

Paramedics were on the scene within minutes, stabilized van Niekerk and transferred him to Sunninghill hospital. Unfortunately, as a result of the impact, his right lower leg was amputated. Van Niekerk has shown great resilience, and is looking forward to starting his rehabilitation and getting back to work as soon as possible.

An account has been set up to assist Reuben with his rehabilitation, and we appeal to all those wishing to send flowers and gifts to rather make a donation towards this.
