new GS1200 heavy on oil???

My Sept 2011 GS 1200, 2700km, had to be topped up yesterday. Did not asked how much oil it took
I noticed the "oil can" appeared 2 days ago. Took bike to BMW to be checked out. They said to me it's normal for the new models to use more oil for the first 10000km's.
