Hi to All Club Members

As 2015 draws to a close, we wish to thank all of you for the support received during the year. It is good to know that our sport still has the participants it has, even in these harsh economic times, and it shows the commitment from each and every one of you.

And to all our loyal sponsors, without you guys we could not maintain the standard of events we do, without you. THANK YOU!

There are many exciting races happening in 2016, with our first race kicking off in Caledon end February. This race was originally intended to be in Botriver, but due to soil erosion from previous races, there is still some land rehabilitation work happening there, so we head off to Heiningneskloof Farm for our opening round. This venue promises some challenging terrain.  From there we head off to Caledon, Dunhye Park, for our second race in April. Most of you have been racing for a while, will know these tracks, and is definitely a event not to miss. Then in July we have a 3rd round race in Veldrif, where you can expect some nice sandy tracks, with some fast areas thrown in for good measure.

In end of August / beginning September, we head off to Ceres for the Koue Bokkeveld Double Header (4th and last round in our series). This event will also form part of the National Calendar (round 5 of 6). We are really privileged to be hosting another National in the Western Cape in 2016, and this event promises to be the highlight of the year! We will confirm the exact dates ASAP.

In early October we have the Oranjemund Desert 300, which is loads of fun for competitors and spectators alike. This race does not count towards the WCOC Championship Series, and is a friendly, just go enjoy yourself race, with great hospitality from our friends across the border. We would like to encourage more club members to join us for the trip to Oranjemund, to come and enjoy the experience.

Then at the end of October, plans are on the way to host a race up in the Northern area of the Tankwa Karoo. This promises to be something very different for our club members (and anyone else wishing to participate). This race will be run with GPS, with minimal (if any) track marking. This will be a “Rallye” style race, with open areas, rocky areas, some river beds, and big elevation changes. At this stage there are two areas we will be riding in, with a liaison where bikes will need to be uplifted by trailer / bakkie, and transported to the next area for a special stage. We have already spent a weekend up there scouting the area, and looking at base camp and accommodation options. More news regarding this race will be provided as we progress with the planning.

MSA have granted offroad clubs Nationally a new WOW (Weekend Offroad Warrior) license which we can provide to riders wishing to enter the sport of offroad racing for the first time. See details below.

Motorsport South Africa is pleased to announce a new type of licence to be made available to all Offroad Motorcycle, Quad and Enduro competitors in 2016.  The WOW (Weekend Offroad Warrior) licence is aimed at introducing recreational riders to MSA events and listed below are the broad details concerning these licences:
• The licence will be in the form of a paper licence sent via email to the competitor.
• The licence will be R100 per event or R300 once-off for an annual WOW licence.
• No credit will be granted against the cost of an annual licence should a rider decide to upgrade to a regular MSA licence during the course of the year.  The full cost of the annual licence, as well as the cost of any associated personal accident insurance purchase/upgrade, will be payable in such instances.
• All event organisers running Offroad and Enduro events under the auspices of MSA are encouraged to make provision for a WOW class at these events.
• All WOW licence holders must appear on the relevant event’s race results and be scored separately in the WOW class.
• Competitors with regular MSA licences (annual or one event) cannot enter the WOW class.  Any such rider who incorrectly enters the WOW class will not be scored in the dedicated WOW Log that MSA will maintain.
• Once a competitor purchases three (3) one event WOW licences, he/she will automatically be entitled to receive an annual WOW Licence valid for the remainder of the year.
• MSA personal accident insurance cover is not mandatory for WOW licence holders but riders who elect not to take out MSA cover will be required to satisfy event organisers (and therefore the medical teams at events) that they have their own personal accident insurance/medical aid so as not to be referred to public hospitals in the event of an accident.
• MSA personal accident insurance specifically tailored for WOW licence holders can be purchased at an annual fee of R200 (regardless of the number of WOW events competed in) and will offer medical expenses cover up to a limit of R50 000.
• This license is for new riders only, who have not previously held a MSA License.
• Riders will still be limited to class rules ie age and bike sizes
For any queries, please liaise with Carmen Hill at MSA Head Office (011 675 2220 / [email protected])

Regarding MSA Licenses for 2016, we have been advised by MSA that their online licensing will open on the 2nd January 2016. Please ensure you take the right license for 2016 (club, regional or National). If you have any queries regarding this please contact Carmen at MSA (details above).

In ending off, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and all the best for 2016. If you are travelling, do so safely.
