This old dog (Wollie, from Bethlehem) and some of the pack did Le Tele pass in Lesotho for his 60th birthday in April this year. We were accompanied by very close up Bearded Vultures hovering over our heads, and also about a dozen Vaalribbokke.
This was Wollie's 43rd time riding Le Tele over a period of 35 years, on an old Honda XR200 (heavily modified) with a 30 year old front tire.
He did his 1st trip up Le Tele in 1980 on a Yamaha XT500 with kit, which took him 2 days over to Le Johne 30km away.
They used Le Tele for the Roof in the 80's, the last time being 1991.
The top riders those days in the 80's took less than an hour to the top. By 1991 it took them a few hours.
Nowadays, the road has been washed away 3m deep ruts - now it's Rockspiders only!
