I had my alarm clock set for 04:00, and the plan was to hit the first dirt after the Barrage by the time it gets light. Despite the drizzle, it was a fresh morning and I was looking forward to a great day. Altough I’ve done this ride numerous times, the dome area never ceases to amaze me. I was also keen to test my new Garmin Montana which, I’m glad to say, never missed a turn.

The pictures will mostly speak for themselves.

On the way back, I went looking for an old Boer War Artillary Post that I knew was located somewhere in the hills near Lenasia South. After some searching and rough riding I eventually found it. The whole contraption was built with rocks in a semi-circle facing north-east.

While strolling around the trenches, I picked up this object. Maybe someone has an idea what it might be. It’s made of steel, and is clearly quite old, probably from the Boer War. It was clearly cast, as it has distinct seams along it’s length on opposite sides. It does not seem to be hollow. Could it be a solid cannon round perhaps?

The home run, with Perdekop (near Walkerville) in the background.

I found this sign somwhat amusing.

Just over 400km’s for the day.
