So, the finalists for Pirelli SA Bike Of The Year 2017 have been nominated, and above is the list.
It started with each manufacturer nominating which models they wish to make eligible. These models had to be completely new for 2017 (or end of 2016) or have major upgrades over the previous model. The judges then chose these 16 to go to the finals.
On the 4th and 5th of August, a group of prominent and experienced motorcycle journalists will take them out on a mixture of tar roads, track and off-road (where applicable) and will then vote for their favourite, with the winner to be announced on the 7th.
If you were on the judges panel, which bike would you pick?
Remember, BOTY judging is not based on "which of the bikes on the list would I most like to own."
You are not comparing the bikes on the list against each other, unless, of course, they are in the same class. The overall winner of Bike of the Year will be the bike that demonstrates the biggest advance over other bikes in its class. How has the bike moved the class forward? Is it introducing new technology to the class? Is it a new departure for the manufacturer? Is it competitively priced? How good is it dynamically? Is it accessible for every rider or just experts? Can it be serviced anywhere or must it be taken to selected dealerships? Does it fulfil the requirements of the class? And, last but not least, does it have the ‘wow’ factor; which one would you buy with your own money and take home?
Vote, comment, leave your thoughts.
