Ponta D' Oura/Ponta Malongane-Southern Mozambique

Thinking of a long weekend to Ponta D'Oura or Ponta Malongane.
Last travelled by vehicle several years ago and remember that the roads where terribly sandy. Is there anyone out there who is familiar with the current road conditions from the border and which campsites might be more bike friendly?
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
