We (my GF and I) have been riding street bikes for touring and CRFs for dirt. We are now looking to swap the street for DS bikes...so we went window/finger/butt shopping this past weekend.
At 1.73m I have a few options...don't really want the "big" bikes so 800GS, Tiger XC and Tenere 660 are on the list (Tenere doubtful since I can see huge frustration in the power department.
My GF, at 1.6m, has fewer options....the 650GS (with lower seat)
My questions are:
1) 650GS comes with alloy wheels. Is this a problem? We probably won't be doing hard-core adventure riding but I'd rather not be stuck on a trip with a cracked rim.
2) There are lowering kits available for the 800GS (Hyperpro and Wilbers) which can drop the seat height by up to 100mm. Has anyone used these? What are the pros and cons?
3) If it is possible to drop the 800GS, would this be advisable over the 650GS with a lowered seat (cost being so similar and all)?
Look forward to your comments!
