I have recently removed the ABS from my Dakar (2005) and found that the speedometer was not functioning any more.  :patch:
Fixing this is easy!

The ABS sensor, on the rear wheel, is also the sensor signalling to the speedometer. Thus, when the ABS unit is removed the circuit to the speedometer will be broken resulting in no speedo. The functioning of the speedometer can easily be amended by bridging some contacts on the ABS-connector. It might be that the wiring between 2004-2007 differ but I strongly doubt it. Anyway, the wires (or contact points) which need to be linked are as follows:

white with black trace to yellow
white with brown trace to green with grey trace

This is a front few of the ABS-connector showing the terminals bridged.

NOTE: According to a post on F650.com the white with brown trace needs to be connected to the brown with black trace. I have found that this connection does not work on my bike ( a 2005 model)... but, it could be that I'm just colourblind.
