Removing the metal 'toe cap' on BMW Santiago Boots

Hi Dogs

I have recently bought a pair of BMW Santiago boots - and I find that especially on slippery surfaces (including my garage floor), the metal toe caps that are screwed onto the front make me slip.

What is the point of them? I have noticed on some photos that some people obviously take them off - what can you guys tell me about whether this is a good, bad or indifferent idea.
